Exynos Vs Snapdragon: Which one is better?

As we all know, Mobile phone industry is the fastest growing industry of this era. Mobile phones become more handy, slimmer, tougher and durable. They are running on really powerful processors which make everything snappy from opening apps to capturing a photo, everything is happening in a fraction of a second. All the credit goes to the heart of the smartphone. Yes the “Processors”, they are the reason behind all the seamless processing.

“Nothing lasts long. We all came to life and gather allies and Build Empire and die, in all single moment – may be a single pulse of giant processor somewhere”.
-Robin Sloan

Qualcomm Snapdragon and Exynos processors are the leaders in the smartphone processor industry. No doubt they are the trend setters in this industry and bring out the power of the silicon chips. But what is the difference between Exynos and Qualcomm snapdragon processors? What makes them different from others? If you do have the same question then read the full post.

Qualcomm snapdragon and Exynos both are SOC integration, means “system on chip integration”. In simple words they have all input and output peripherals integrated on a single chip i.e. all your Wi-Fi, cellular bands, radio bands, GPU’s, memory etc. are contained in a single silicon chip. Due to this system on chip integration, they become more power efficient and reliable. This is what makes them different from others.

Now, what is the difference between Exynos and Qualcomm snapdragon! Exynos processors are manufactured by Samsung Electronics while Snapdragon processors are manufactured by Qualcomm. Snapdragon processors are widely used in top mobile phone companies like Google, Oneplus, Moto (A Lenovo owned company now) and many others. While Exynos processors are only used to power up Samsung devices. Exynos use fully custom core Arm architecture while snapdragon uses semi-custom core ARM architecture. Both of them are now using 10nm finFET process for manufacturing their processors, but Samsung Exynos was first to make 10nm transistor size on its chip and now snapdragon follows the same 10nm transistor size and finFET process for manufacturing them.

There is one category in which Qualcomm snapdragon is overwhelmingly trusted by their customers and that is GPU. Snapdragon’s Adreno GPU’s are the best GPU in the smartphone industry. They provide much easier architecture on which developers can develop games on it. This is the main reason, why many highly encoded games like asphalt etc. run smoothly on snapdragon processors (SD 835 esp.) without any major issues. In gaming section other companies are still using ARM Mali architecture for their GPU’s. When it comes to image processing, Snapdragon is ruling the industry with their new improved Visual Process Unit (image process unit) in its latest 835 chipset which offer 10-bit colour support and can also enable similar object detection, facial recognition and gesture detection algorithms.

Both of the processors give equal competition to each other, but there is one thing in which snapdragon processors gained the advantage. As the snapdragon processors are used by android manufacturer (Google) so all the applications are made with the reference of snapdragon processors. That’s why snapdragon processors got the full support of android. This is a great advantage for snapdragon devices owned customers. All the application runs very snappy in snapdragon devices while other companies need development to run that application. And one problem that I face with Exynos processor is that they become out-dated after 1 or 2 years later, while the other equivalent snapdragon processors are still able to catch up its successors. This is the main reason, why Samsung devices have hanging issues after sometime.

Final verdict: If you are someone who like to keep changing their smartphone after 6-7 months, then you won’t feel any difference, but if you are going to buy a smartphone which will be in your pockets for a longer time (1-1.5 years) then we strongly recommended you to go for snapdragon ones.
